Closure of Springfield Road Brewery

1974

After nearly 150 years of brewing, the historic Springfield Road Brewery in Chelmsford closed its doors. While this marked the end of an era for Gray & Sons, it also signalled a new chapter as the company transitioned fully into managing its public houses, ensuring they remained community hubs across Essex. Today the Brewery site is still recognisable and is known as Gray’s Yard currently housing restaurants, Zizzis, Fête & Nandos.
